About TRCA
Formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Hazel, TRCA has a strong history in watershed management and leadership in applying sustainability practices. Today, we own more than 40,000 acres of land in the Toronto region, employ more than 400 full time employees and coordinate more than 3,000 volunteers each year. With decades of practical experience in protecting our environment, educating young people, and engaging communities, TRCA works with governments, businesses, and individuals to build a greener, cleaner healthier place to live. Our VisionThe quality of life on Earth is being determined in the rapidly expanding city regions. Our vision is for a new kind of community, The Living City, where human settlement can flourish forever as part of nature's beauty and diversity. Our expertiseTRCA offers knowledge and experience to help our partners contribute to a healthy city region. This includes ecology and the study of water quality, natural habitats, plants, animals and more to help us identify environmental needs, set targets, and restore natural areas; sustainable community development to advise partners about land use, development proposals and construction, and environmental education to help students and community members appreciate their local environment and learn to look after it. Local Action"Think globally, act locally" applies well to TRCA and its partners. While we recognize our participation in the global environment, our work is focused squarely on the environment here in the Toronto region. We work to protect and restore the health of the nine watersheds that form the Toronto region, and the Lake Ontario waterfront along its southern boundary. Working TogetherCommunities across our watersheds are meeting the challenge of protecting and restoring the health of our environment. TRCA works alongside its municipal partners, other environmental departments and organizations, educational organizations, corporations and grass roots community groups to help them, as well as ourselves, achieve our goals in support of a greener, cleaner, healthier place to live. Toronto and Region Conservation's vision is for The Living City, a new kind of community where human settlement can flourish forever as part of nature's beauty and diversity. Since 1957 TRCA has monitored, protected and regenerated the nine watersheds which flow through the Toronto region into Lake Ontario. Toronto and Region Conservation's partners are the City of Toronto, the regional municipalities of Durham, Peel and York, the Town of Mono and the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio. It serves a population of over 6 million. About the Conservation Foundation
The Conservation Foundation of Greater Toronto raises money for projects undertaken by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA). Since its founding in April, 1961, the Foundation has raised over $22 million for TRCA's projects. For 50 years, TRCA has been working to conserve the natural environment in the Toronto region. One thing makes the work of the TRCA unique: It protects the environment where you live, where you work and where you bring up your kids (or grandkids). The Conservation Foundation funds this environmental work in three ways. We fund projects which help us understand the natural environment; we fund projects which allow people to enjoy the natural environment and we fund projects to look after the environment. To understand the environment, we monitor the water and the air quality in the region at over 250 sites. Some of this work is done by volunteers. We also fund many projects to simply understand how nature works and what it needs to survive in a city region of over six million people. Finally, we fund residential and one-day outdoor education programs which are challenging and provocative. To encourage people to enjoy the environment, the foundation raises money for our popular visitor centres at Black Creek Pioneer Village and the Kortright Centre for Conservation. We also provide funding for TRCA’s parks and conservation areas. Each year, nearly 1,000,000 men, women and children enjoy these facilities. Finally, the foundation funds work to look after the environment. For 50 years, TRCA has been involved in restoration and rehabilitation projects in every one of the region’s nine watersheds. The TRCA coordinates volunteer activities in our watersheds encouraging local people to look after the environment where they live. These hands-on, specific projects produce tangible results. The environment is now the leading issue in Canada and climate change has become the most urgent and critical issue of our time. Most people live in cities, and the Conservation Foundation supports vital environmental projects in the largest city region in Canada. Toronto and Region Conservation is the largest owner of green space in the Toronto region with over 40,000 acres. It owns and operates Black Creek Pioneer Village, the Kortright Centre for Conservation, Tommy Thompson Park, three outdoor education field centres and ten parks and conservation areas. It also owns other "green gems" like Humber Bay Park, Bluffers Park, the Ajax Waterfront Park and the Don Valley Brick Works. These places, and many others, are maintained by our municipal partners. These projects and facilities would not exist without the support and financial commitments of donors like you. About TN Marketing

About the Greening Greater Toronto
In June 2008, Toronto City Summit Alliance (TCSA) launched an initiative to improve the environmental future of the Toronto region. Greening Greater Toronto was created in response to the 2007 Toronto Summit's call for a regional environmental vision and plan that will build upon the existing efforts and leadership of environmental organizations, governments, research institutions and businesses. More than 100 partners from corporations, industry, government and the non-profit sector have joined forces to improve the environmental health and future of the Greater Toronto Area and make it the greenest city region in North America. At the launch, Greening Greater Toronto announced four initial programs to address the region's environmental challenges, including:
Over the next two years, Greening Greater Toronto will implement these initial programs and additional programs building on existing activities to address the key contributors to the region’s environment. The Greening Greater Toronto Task Force is co-chaired by Clean Air Partnership Executive Director Eva Ligeti, TCSA Chair and Senior Managing Partner of The Boston Consulting Group David Pecaut, and TD Bank Financial Group Group Head of Corporate Operations Mike Pedersen.
